Anyukov: A home World Cup will be a celebration



© AFP Zenit defender Aleksandr Anyukov has huge experience in international football, having represented his country more times than most. In fact, his 77 caps for Russia puts him sixth on the all-time appearances list. The 34-year-old played a key role in the Sbornaya"s most successful tournament to date, UEFA EURO 2008, when the team reached the semi-finals.
Anyukov has been playing in Saint Petersburg for 11 years, but was born and raised in Samara, which is why he was happy to accept the role of Host City Ambassador for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™. In an interview with FIFA.com, he spoke about playing football in his hometown and explained why he thinks the Luzhniki Stadium is as iconic as Wembley.
