Ruth Davidson calls for single market access



Media captionRuth Davidson says she wants the “largest amount of access to the single market” after Brexit The leader of the Scottish Conservatives has said she wants the UK to have the “largest amount of access” to the single market after Brexit.
Ruth Davidson was speaking the day after the prime minister said the UK could not hold on to “bits” of the EU.
The Brexit debate has largely focused on whether placing controls on the movement of EU citizens will mean the UK has to leave the single market.
But Ms Davidson said free trade was more important to her than immigration.
Ms Davidson was a vocal supporter of the Remain campaign ahead of June"s referendum, which saw the UK vote to leave the EU by 52% to 48%, while Scottish voters backed remain by 62% to 38%.

RHI scandal: Arlene Foster says calls to step down "misogynistic"



Image caption First Minister Arlene Foster said she would not step aside because she had done nothing wrong First Minister Arlene Foster has again said she will not stand down over the controversial Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme and said calls for her to do so were “misogynistic”.
Mrs Foster set up the scheme in 2012 when she was minister for enterprise, trade and investment.
It was an attempt by the Northern Ireland Executive to help to increase consumption of heat from renewable sources.
RHI is approximately £490m over budget.
The DUP leader has turned down offers of an interview with BBC News NI, but told Sky News she would not stand aside as she had done nothing wrong.

Political donations: Alliance calls for change in law

Unlike in the rest of the UK, Stormont parties are not required to reveal where their funding comes from.
The Alliance party says it wants to put pressure on the secretary of state to review the law.

As an MP, Alliance leader Naomi Long secured legislative change meaning names of single donors of more than £7,500 since January 2014 can be published if the secretary of state lifts an exemption.

Pro-Brexit group calls for EU free trade deal



Image copyright Getty Images Campaigners for a “hard” Brexit have asked business groups across Europe to put pressure on their governments for a free trade agreement with Britain.
Leave Means Leave has written to the chambers of commerce in all the other 27 EU states, asking them to call for a “sensible agreement regarding the terms of Britain"s exit from the EU”.
The letter warns that trade barriers would have a “detrimental effect”.
It also calls for uninterrupted trade as well as near-zero tariffs.
The letter was written by Leave Means Leave co-chairs Richard Tice and John Longworth, the former British Chambers of Commerce director-general. The group wants to ensure Brexit means the UK is no longer a member of the EU"s single market.

CBI calls for barrier-free trade with EU after Brexit

It said UK companies should not be subjected to trade tariffs, with only “minimal” other barriers in place.
In a report, it also called for a migration system that allowed firms to obtain the skills and labour they need.

RHI scandal: McGuinness calls on NI first minister to step aside



Stormont"s deputy first minister has called on Arlene Foster to “stand aside” as first minister while the "cash-for-ash" scandal is investigated.
Mrs Foster set up the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme in 2012 but an overspend could cost taxpayers £400m.
Martin McGuinness said he was concerned that “credibility of the political institutions is being undermined”.
But Mrs Foster replied that she would not be stepping aside and “does not take her instructions from Sinn Féin”.

Skype real time translator now works on regular calls as well



If you are the type of person who has a lot overseas communication to deal with, or simply like the idea of international networking, then chances are you have tried Skype"s futuristic real time translator feature at leas once. It was launched way back in 2014 and has been improving since. Microsoft seems to have taken a particular liking to it, as evident by the latest update that takes it beyond Skype calls.
You can now use Translator in any regular voice call as well. That includes both landline and mobile calls, meaning the other party no longer has to be a Skype user. Naturally, you have to have Skype credit to place said call and make use of the feature. Since it is currently in an early stage, you also have to be signed in with a Windows Insider account and download the Skype Preview app. It is linked in the source.
