Halilhodzic: Japanese players could drink sake on the ball



© Getty Images Vahid Halilhodzic has stressed that Japan must find an out-and-out goal-scorer and urged his players to develop greater fighting spirit like Europeans. Five players have been on target for the Samurai Blue in their five Group B games in Asian qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, but only one, Hertha Berlin attacker Genki Haraguchi, has netted more than once.
“Right now, we’re getting goals from various positions: from centre-back, from midfield, from the forwards,” said Halilhodzic. “It’s a good thing, but what I want is a pure, out-and-out goal-scorer. Someone who can take the one or two chances he may or may not have in a game.
“I must find this type of player – or develop one, somehow. Every good team has one, a player who finds a way to score not just when he is on a roll, but also when the tide is against him.

Auckland test for Japanese new boys



© Getty Images The opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2016 pitches competition debutants and newly-crowned J.League winners Kashima Antlers against Auckland City, who owe their place in the competition to their sixth straight OFC Champions League triumph.
