Nintendo breaks App Store record with Super Mario Run

Nintendo has issued a press release that confirms what everybody already knew; Super Mario Run is a big success. The company confirmed that the game was downloaded over 40 million times in the first four days, which broke the previous App Store record set by Nintendo"s other property, Pokémon GO.
Apart from being downloaded like crazy, Super Mario Run is also the top ranking app in the "Free" category in 140 different markets around the world and, more importantly, among the top 10 in the "Top Grossing" list in 100 markets on the App Store.
This is hardly a surprise for multiple reasons. It is the first game Nintendo made by itself for the mobile platform, which also happened to be based on Nintendo"s favorite cash cow, Super Mario. Second, Nintendo"s partnership with Apple also seems to have paid off well, with a lot of marketing for the game by Apple and, for the first time in App Store history, every single App Store slide tiles featuring the sam..

Super Mario Run breaks record for most-launch-day downloads in App Store history

According to App analytics firm Apptopia Nintendo’s first official Mario game for any mobile platform has been downloaded a whopping 2.85 million times in the first day of launch and is on its way to break Pokemon Go’s record for the most first-week downloads on the App Store.
That number bested another Nintendo Title, Pokemon Go, which now holds the #2 spot for the most downloaded app on the first day of launch. With a number of 900,000 downloads (according to the same App analytics firm), Pokemon Go did not gather as many downloads as Super Mario Run, however that’s due to Pokemon Go’s initial launch for only a select number of regions whereas Super Mario Run launched in 150 countries on the first day.

Harriet Harman breaks record for long service as MP

Media captionThe Daily Politics looked at some of the highlights of Harriet Harman"s career in 2015 Labour"s Harriet Harman has become the longest continuously serving female MP, racking up 12,468 days in the Commons.
Since Ms Harman was elected in a Peckham by-election in 1982, she has worked with seven different Labour leaders and been acting leader twice.
Friday marks the day she surpasses Gwyneth Dunwoody"s record, although the late Labour MP served longer overall in two separate periods.
The longest-serving MP is Sir Gerald Kaufman who was first elected in 1970.

© Getty Images Nigeria secured their eighth African CAF Women"s Africa Cup of Nations title with a hard-earned, last-gasp 1-0 victory over Cameroon in Yaounde on the weekend. The final was a repeat of the 2014 championship match that also saw the Nigerians triumph.

A capacity crowd of 40,000, including the State President Paul Biya, crammed into the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in the capital, hoping that Les Lionesses could finally beat a team they had lost against in two previous finals.
Edged forward by the noisy crowd, the home side were stronger than their opponents in the first half and had a number of chances. Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene should have opened the scoring early on, but squandered the opportunity.
