New report says iPhones dominated the holidays and app downloads peaked on Christmas day

If you’ve got a shiny new phone this holiday season, the chance that it was an iPhone is double the that of it carrying Samsung"s branding. Flurry Analytics, an insight company for Yahoo! has found that 44% of activated devices between December 18 and 25 were iPhones (down 5% from the same report in 2015). Meanwhile, just 21% of devices activated were made by Samsung (up 2% from last year’s report) and Huawei devices made it to the third slot with just 3% (Huawei did not even show up in last year’s report, way to go Huawei!).
Apple does have an advantage during the Holiday season as many iPhone owners have probably waited until the holidays to make the upgrade. Otherwise, Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are already well into their product cycle, even so, it earned the number 2 spot of smartphones activated during the holidays. Super Mario Run breaks record for most-launch-day downloads in App Store history

According to App analytics firm Apptopia Nintendo’s first official Mario game for any mobile platform has been downloaded a whopping 2.85 million times in the first day of launch and is on its way to break Pokemon Go’s record for the most first-week downloads on the App Store.
That number bested another Nintendo Title, Pokemon Go, which now holds the #2 spot for the most downloaded app on the first day of launch. With a number of 900,000 downloads (according to the same App analytics firm), Pokemon Go did not gather as many downloads as Super Mario Run, however that’s due to Pokemon Go’s initial launch for only a select number of regions whereas Super Mario Run launched in 150 countries on the first day.

Netflix enables downloads for offline playback

Netflix has introduced a much-requested feature on its mobile apps: the ability to download content for offline playback.
Currently being rolled out, the latest update for the iOS and Android app will let you download any of the supported movies or television shows from their catalogue. Not all of the content is available for download but from a cursory glance it seemed like most of it was there.
When a movie or TV show supports downloading, you will see the download button in the description of the movie or next to the episode title of the TV show.
In the settings, you can choose to enable the downloads only on Wi-Fi and also choose the quality. The quality settings available are "Standard" and "Higher", which doesn"t say much about resolution and bitrate and they may as well have named them "Meh" and "Wow" for all the difference it makes.
