Samsung wants to sell 100 million Galaxy J phones this year and 20 million Galaxy A handsets

Earlier today we told you that Samsung is reportedly looking to sell 60 million Galaxy S8 units this year, and now it"s time for us to talk about the company"s mid-range and lower-end lines in the same context.
A new report from Samsung"s home country of South Korea claims that the company expects to move around 20 million Galaxy A handsets in 2017. Not only that, but the sales target for the lower-end Galaxy J series has allegedly been set at a whopping 100 million units for this year.
This information reportedly comes from “a person briefed on the matter”, but don"t forget to take it with a pinch of salt regardless. And even if these are actual internal sales goals for Samsung, that obviously doesn"t automatically mean they will be met. Still, it"s interesting to see the company be so ambitious about its non-flagship device lines.
The Galaxy A (2017) series handsets were unveiled last week, and all come with water and dust resistance, a feature previo..

Report says Samsung aiming to sell 60 million Galaxy S8 units this year

According to a new report out of Samsung"s home country of South Korea, the company is aiming to sell around 60 million units of its upcoming Galaxy S flagship smartphone (likely to be called the Galaxy S8) in 2017.
“The tech giant has requested its partners to supply (parts) based on the tech giant’s 60 million shipment goal,” the report quotes industry sources as saying.
The 60 million figure, if you compare, is higher than the yearly shipment numbers for some of the recent Galaxy S flagships: the Galaxy S5 (45 million), the Galaxy S6 (45 million), and the Galaxy S7 (48 million, expected).
The report also notes that the Galaxy S8 will be launched sometime in April (which is inline with what we"ve been hearing recently), adding that the mass production of the device will begin a month prior – in March.

Qualcomm fined $854 million for violating competition laws

This summer we told you about an investigation by the Fair Trade Comission in South Korea involving Qualcomm and unfair business practices. Reuters now reports that we have a final verdict – the company will be fined 1.03 trillion won (approx. $854 million). The decision will be challenged in court, the chip maker said later.
This is the largest fine ever issued by the Korean FTC (KFTC). They say Qualcomm abused its dominant market position and forced phone makers to pay unnecessarily high costs for patents as part of their deal to provide chipsets. The regulator added more:
The accusation also includes restricting competition by limiting licensing of its standard essential patents to rivals such as Intel, Samsung Electronics and MediaTek. KFTC ordered Qualcomm to renegotiate with rivals on patents and supply agreements. This means that the chip maker will have to resign its deals with Apple, Samsung and Huawei.
Investigations began back in 2014 when anonymous complaints were filed…

Opera Max celebrates 50 million Android users with VIP mode

Opera announced that their data-saving app Opera Max reached 50 million active users. Along with that it updated the app which now has VIP mode for unlimited data savings and privacy.
Opera was always aiming to compress the web. With their Opera Max free VPN application you are able to lower your data usage when browsing and streaming audio and video. The only requirement is to tap a button every 12 hours to lengthen you data-saving experience. When tapped, the app shows various ads which are the main income for the data-compressing servers of the Norwegian software company.
Opera Max screenshot with enabled VIP mode The new update added VIP mode which gives users unlimited data savings. If you decide to go for it, beware, because now ads are on your lock screen while charging even if the app is not running.
Ironically, blocking background apps was one of the good features that Opera Max had but apparently now they are doing exactly the same. For revenue of course.
