Vodafone India announces SuperHour unlimited data packs

Mobile data has become such an integral part of the smartphone experience that most users and developers and service providers, for that matter, can"t really imagine modern digital interactions and activities without it. Hence, it is rather disappointing to learn that getting a proper data plan from most carriers, even on the biggest markets is still mostly a drag.
Vodafone India is looking to sweeten the deal for its prepaid customers. Users can now purchase a “SuperHour” pack for unlimited mobile data over the course of an hour. And the best part is, it only costs INR 16 or just around $0.25. There is also no limit on stacking these packs, so every hour can be a “SuperHour”, if that is your wish.
The plans cover 4G, 3G and even 2G networks, depending on your local coverage. Customers stuck in a 2G circle will get an even cheaper deal at INR 5, to compensate for the inferior service. Vodafone will also offer an unlimited local call package, under the same hourly conditions. You..

Xiaomi announces white Mi Mix at CES, still China-only

Just as leaked, rumored, and hinted at by the company"s own teasers over the past few days, today during its CES press conference Xiaomi has made the white version of the Mi Mix official. This has a pearl-like finish, according to Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra, who was on stage to introduce it to the world.
The specs stay the same as for the initially revealed black model, as you"d expect. Unfortunately the white Mi Mix, like the black one, will only be sold in China. An actual release date hasn"t been mentioned.
Despite what many had been hoping, Xiaomi still hasn"t announced its international expansion into what are usually called "developed markets". So don"t expect to officially buy Xiaomi smartphones in the US, Canada, or Western Europe anytime soon. As for the Mi Mix, it was perhaps the most intriguing device of 2016 (unless you count the Galaxy Note7"s propensity to catch fire), but it was launched as a concept with limited production capacity an..

ASUS announces HiveSpot and HiveDot mesh networking system

ASUS has also thrown its hat in the modular wireless mesh networking system with the launch of the HiveSpot and HiveDot systems.
Both systems require at least three nodes or up to five nodes. They work together to have a single Wi-Fi access point for all your devices. One of the nodes can be the master and connected to the modem and the others can be the slave. You can also connect them to an existing router through a LAN connector and then extend its range.
The difference between the HiveSpot and HiveDot systems is that while the HiveDot is a dual-band AC1300 system, the HiveSpot is tri-band AC2134 system. HiveSpot also incorporates seven smart antennas for wide coverage. It has two 2.3GHz bands along with a third 5GHz band for higher speeds with limited range.
The systems can be setup through the ASUS Hive mobile app.

Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 835

Qualcomm has taken the stage at CES 2017 and another staple in the smartphone industry has been announced. Aimed to succeed the Snapdragon 820, Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 835. It will be the first Qualcomm-made SoC that is commercially produced using the 10nm FinFET process. The Snapdragon 835 is built with VR in mind, as well as the ability to run mobile computing systems with full Windows 10 support.
The new chip uses the same Kryo CPU architecture that was found in the Snapdragon 82X, though with Kryo 280, there will be 4 additional cores that focus on running efficiently on top of the 4 performance cores that are clocked up to 2.45GHz. By contrast, the other more efficient cores will be clocked up to 1.9GHz. In addition, the 835 is about 35% smaller in size and consumes 25% less power which translates to better battery life, in theory.
In the graphics department, the Adreno 530 is succeeded by the Adreno 540 GPU, which supports OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0, Vulkan’s API, ..

Lenovo announces new laptops at CES 2017

Today is a big day for Lenovo in Las Vegas. Ahead of the Consumers Electronics Show the company unveiled three devices – the ThinkPad X1 Yoga, the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon and X1 Tablet which is like the Yoga but without a physical keyboard (though there is an option to add such as a module).
So let’s get into detail for each one of them. ThinkPad X1 Yoga comes with 7th gen Intel CPU and Lenovo implemented additional biometric authentication with IR camera with face recognition support and Match-on-Chip touch fingerprint sensor for another layer of security.
The stylus is also updated so it now feels even more like a pen. The tip is with soft elastomer which gives greater friction with the screen and thus creates more natural writing experience. The 14” OLED display has stunning colors and the keyboard now retracts fully flat so the X1 Yoga can feel more like a tablet, even if it’s too heavy to get the tablet feeling.
And what about the X1 laptop? X1 Carbon has the latest Intel Kaby L..

LG announces TONE Studio and TONE Free Bluetooth headsets

LG has announced two new Bluetooth headsets that will be showcased during CES 2017, the TONE Studio and the TONE Free.
The TONE Studio has four external drivers around the horseshoe design, with two full range drivers at the top and two vibrating drivers at the bottom end. They combine to simulate a surround sound effect, that LG has worked with DTS to achieve. If you want to listen privately, there are also earbuds included that you can plug in.
The TONE Free has a similar horseshoe design but without the external speakers. Instead it has wireless earbuds that can be tucked into the neckband when not in use, where they charge. The neckband also vibrates when you have notifications. You can also get an optional charging cradle if you don"t want to use the neckband all the time.
Along with these two, LG will also be revealing the TONE Infinim, and TONE Ultra made in collaboration with JBL.
