Immobile: I spent hours talking to Ventura in his office

© Getty Images Ciro Immobile has revealed that long chats with Italy coach Giampiero Ventura got him through the hard times. Immobile spent just a season under the command of Ventura, hitting 22 goals in 33 Serie A games for Torino in 2013/14.
The striker born by the foot of Mount Vesuvius subsequently struggled during spells at Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla, but has found his rhythm again for Lazio this term. Immobile has also made each of Ventura’s Italy squads, scoring four goals in four 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ qualifiers, including a late double away to FYR Macedonia that turned defeat into a 3-2 victory.

SNP questions Scotland Office budget rise

Image copyright PA An SNP MP has questioned why the UK government"s Scotland Office has seen its budget increase by 20% over the past five years.
Margaret Ferrier said the increase came at the same time as a real-terms cut in the Scottish government budget.
And she claimed the devolution of new powers to Holyrood meant the Scotland Office was now a “zombie department”.
The UK government said it was right that the department was resourced for the challenges of the year ahead.
A spokeswoman said: “This year the Scotland Office has ensured the successful passage of the Scotland Act, making the Scottish Parliament one of the most powerful devolved governments in the world.
“It is right we are resourced for the challenges in 2017 as we continue to deliver the remaining powers as well as making sure we get the best deal for Scotland and the whole of the UK as we leave the EU.”

Cabinet Office cats Evie and Ossie join Whitehall mousers

Evie and Ossie, rescue cats from the Celia Hammond Trust, have been given the run of four floors at the Whitehall office.
Downing Street has its own mouser – Larry – who was tasked in 2011 with ridding No 10 of a rat problem.
In April, the Foreign Office took on its own mouser, Palmerston, while the Treasury recruited Gladstone in July.
"Settling in"Evie and Ossie are the first to come from the Celia Hammond Animal Trust – Larry, Gladstone and Palmerston came from the better-known Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
Evie is Ossie"s mother – a Cabinet Office spokesman said they had been bought with funds raised from staff and were “settling in really well”.

Torture evidence ignored by Home Office, says charity

Image copyright Will Baxter The Home Office is “disregarding and mistreating” medical evidence of torture in UK asylum claims, a report by a charity suggests.
Asylum seekers in the UK who say they are torture victims can have medical assessments to verify their claims.
But charity Freedom From Torture said judges were correcting poor judgements at “considerable cost to taxpayers”.
The Home Office said “an exceptionally small sample” was used in the report and all evidence was considered.
Sonya Sceats, director of policy and advocacy at Freedom From Torture, told the BBC"s Victoria Derbyshire programme its findings showed “egregious mishandling of medical evidence” in 50 cases over a two-year period, from January 2014 to December 2015.
Freedom From Torture produces medical reports when lawyers for asylum seekers who say they have suffered torture, instruct clinicians and other healthcare professionals at the charity to carry out detailed assessments.
