The Card phone review: The future is modular

Introduction With an OLED screen and a body that"s merely 6.5mm thick, the spec sheet of the Aiek E1 starts off nicely. It"s a one-off device unlike any other that we"ve reviewed in recent years.
Its pet-name being the Card phone, this little fellow comes in a credit-card size but don"t worry, you can afford one even if you don"t have a credit card. Or a wallet. Or even a roof over your head.
As it"s a phone that"s meant to be as affordable as it gets, some compromises had to be made. For example, it doesn"t run the latest Android version. Come to think of it, it doesn"t run any version of any OS whatsoever, but that doesn"t stop it from being the cheapest modular phone there is right now. Forget the Moto X – the Card phone rules modularity.
Don"t believe us? For instance, the Aiek E1 may not support Apple Pay or Android Pay or any other similar service, but that can"t stop you from getting your existing contactless credit ..

CES or no CES, the stream of Samsung Galaxy S8 rumors is flowing steady. This week has brought us a release date, a hint at a Continuum-like feature, and a live photo, which may very well be a fake. Or it might be real, given that the phone is supposedly already in testing in China.

Social care funding: MPs urge "swift" cross-party review

With just a week left of 2016, we can"t really expect any more major events. It is instead the time to reminisce and look back on the past 12 months and also prepare and speculate on what the new year has to offer.

Jacqui Hames, who is also an ex-police officer, argues the recommendations of the Leveson phone-hacking inquiry are not being implemented.
She is seeking a judicial review of the terms of the public consultation on part two of the Leveson Inquiry.
“Leveson 2” would examine relationships between police and the press.
The government is expected to make a decision on whether or not that phase will go ahead by 10 January, and it said it was considering its response to the application for a review.
