The robust centre-back also played at France 1998. In total, he collected 78 caps, 30 of which were earned during FIFA-run competitions, and scored six goals. He turned out for a number of clubs, including CSKA Sofia and Rapid Vienna. Ivanov died on 13 February 2016, in his home town of Samovodene.
