A couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine treated herself to an iPhone 7 Plus. Long story short, she loved it, and it wasn"t only for the gorgeous shade of Rose Gold it was sporting. The screen, the battery life, and the performance all blew her away, but the feature she was enjoying the most was..

Android 7.1.1 Nougat arrives on the Sony Xperia X as part of the latest Concept update

Back in November Sony released its first “Concept” Android build for the Xperia X, and it"s received a couple of updates so far. These Concept builds are experimental and are meant to give people a way to test new software that"s closer to stock Android than Sony"s stable releases.
Today the company has started sending out another update for the Xperia X Concept firmware, and the big new thing is that it"s now based on Android 7.1.1 and not 7.0. This makes Sony the first mobile device maker except Google to have rolled out the absolute latest version of the OS, even if we"re talking about a very limited release here.
Sony"s build number for the new firmware is 38.3.A.0.41, and the Android build number is NMF26F8. The update comes with the December security patches, which is a shame since the January ones are probably going out tomorrow. Anyway, there"s a new Restart option in the Power menu, faster camera startup time, and support for PS4 remote-pla..

Purported image of Sony Xperia X (2017) leaks

A image purported to be of the 2017 variant of the Sony Xperia X has leaked online. Claimed to be a press image, the leak shows the front of the black version of the smartphone.
Given the angle at which the picture is taken as well as the color (black) of the model, the position of the sensors isn"t clear, although the phone does seem to have very thin bezels.
There"s also some text below the “New Xperia X” moniker, but that"s also not clearly visible – reports, however, say it could be #TheGreatest.
We currently cannot confirm whether the leaked image is legit or fake. So, needless to say, don"t take anything for certain just yet.

Sony Xperia XZ and X Performance updated with December"s security patch

The Sony Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ were both recently updated with Android Nougat (1,2). Despite being updated right at the cusp between November and December, neither of these smartphones’ updates were released late enough to get the December security patches from Google.
Well, now both the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance are getting a new update that rolls up the build number from 39.2.A.0.237 to 39.2.A.0.361. The update also brings the Sony handsets to the latest security bulletin from Google for the month of December.
Currently, the update is rolling out in some European markets and Latin America and is only arriving to singleSIM versions of the Xperia XZ (F8331) and Xperia X Performance (F8131). If you already installed the update, leave a comment and let us know if you see anything else different.

Testdriving Sony"s Concept for Android on the Xperia X - the stock Nougat experience

Sony launched its Concept for Android initiative all the way back in the summer of last year as a means to get early feedback on future software releases from real-world users. A year and a half later, the project lives on and everyone can get on board. Well, everyone with an Xperia X in Europe, but that"s still pretty liberal.
Sony reached out to us and sent an Xperia X our way for us to try out its beta Nougat firmware. What"s typically been the case in the past with Sony custom Android builds is to add a small feature here and there (one was called Small Apps) – useful and unobtrusive, and bundle a few in-house multimedia apps – for example the Walkman-branded music player. Well, the Small apps were retired at one point, and Walkman turned into Music but kept its core functionality.
But before we go over what you can expect to find on Sony Nougat builds, we"ll just quickly walk you through the process of signing up for the program and installing the firmware.

Sony Xperia XZ emerges as top late 2016 flagship after Note7"s demise

Are you a glass half full or half empty kind of person? It seems that Sony fans are the former – when Apteligent reported that the canceled and recalled Samsung Galaxy Note7 is still more popular than a number of other prominent flagships, Sony fans focused on the fact that the Xperia XZ is by far the leading late-2016 Android flagship.
This puts it ahead of fan darlings like the Google Pixels, the latest flagship from Android standby Motorola, the feature-loaded LG V20, the controversial-but-liked OnePlus 3T and the heavily promoted HTC Bolt (aka 10 Evo outside the US).
Note: Galaxy Note7 numbers have been excluded An impressive achievement to be sure, it shows that Sony got something right that the others (other than Apple and Samsung that is) did not. Motorola in particular seems to have mucked up, Apteligent data shows that Moto Z shares slipped after Black Friday, showing that flagship from competitors had a bigger draw.
Putting Android aside for a moment, it seems that Apple d..

Sony Xperia XZ starts receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat update

We’re receiving reports that the Sony Xperia XZ is receiving its serving of Android 7.0 Nougat update. A reader from India tipped us off (thanks, Vedant!) but checking with XDA it seems that the first wave includes Australia, the Netherlands, Russia and Turkey.
The update is a hefty 1GB so connect to a nice Wi-Fi network and check for updates. Don’t worry if you don’t see anything yet, staggered roll-outs take a while to reach everyone.
The update screen for Xperia XZ"s Nougat firmware
This update should enable the best Nougat features like split-screen multitasking, but also bring improvements to Sony apps like the camera and as you can see from the screenshots, it will improve Stamina mode.
